Version-control contracts

Git policies

Commit messages and pull-request history are enforced outside the repository rule registry. They are commands and hooks, so they do not appear in the rule count.

Commit header grammar

[(i/N) ][TICKET] type(scope)!: description

The optional series marker comes first, followed by an optional ticket, a conventional-commit type, optional scope and breaking marker, then a concise description.

Managed commit headers

The hook validates new commit headers. Safe fixing normalizes only casing and spacing; commit bodies and trailers remain untouched.

Terminal window
repo-standards commit-message .git/COMMIT_EDITMSG --fix-safe

CI validates every direct non-merge commit, including commits created before a contributor installed the hook.

Reviewable pull-request history

Pull requests may contain up to five direct commits by default. Longer histories must use a complete, ordered (1/N) through (N/N) series.

The local hook is advisory because it cannot know the final base and head refs. CI evaluates the direct commits in the submitted pull request.
